My dear friends and family,
I am writing from my bed in Princess Anne rehabilitation center in Virginia Beach. As many of you know, last October I fell and broke my right leg above the knee and damaged my knee and femur. After surgery I was in this rehab center for two months, got home right before Christmas and continued my rehabilitation with an in-home physical therapist through January and February.
On February 17th I had my last in-home physical therapy and I had a return to work date of March 15th.
Two days later on Saturday morning I had vertigo for the first time in my life. it was like the whole room turned upside down I fell and broke the same leg again, except this time it was at the top of my femur right below my hip. I was rushed back to the hospital where that evening they performed surgery and connected my leg back together. A very painful day. I was in the hospital for a few days and then they transferred me to the rehab center where I am staying now and for the next few weeks. I’m not sure how long I’ll be here but it was very disconcerting that I had to start my rehabilitation all over again, the same leg, the top of my femur twice broken. Who could’ve guessed such a thing?
I write this for two reasons. One, is to update those who don’t know what’s going on with me and secondly to give all praise and honor to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and my heavenly Father who has sustained me through this. As I look at TV and I see what’s going on around the world and around our country there’s a part of me that says that I have no problems whatsoever. I have a great wife and daughter who are caring for me, I work for a great company Cox Communications who is paying me and helping me to hold my job, I have great friends and co-workers who are concerned about me and talk to me throughout the day, And a wonderful staff at this rehab center who care for me and treat me like family. So in spite of the fact that everything in my life is turned upside down there’s been so many other losses around me. Friends Have had family that’s passed away, Friends have had family in the hospital and are suffering…so much suffering.
But through it all I have been blessed by the Lord who has held my hand and helped this old guy make it through.
Again I wanted you all to know what’s been going on in my life, and give thanks to God for His blessing me through this trial. It’s times like this that serving God, loving God, and trusting in him, makes all the difference in the world.
My precious Lord, my precious daughter Laura, who took over running our company with my dear sweet wife Martha of 49 1/2 years of marriage, have made all the difference in the world. Soon I’ll be continuing my writing, continuing my business and serving God to the best of my ability. Know that You are constantly in my prayers. Blessings to my readers in the 76 countries where my spirit fellowship blog is read. Blessings to all of my family and friends.
Love in Christ,
Gene
